Normal has left the building

Eight years ago at this time, I hit the streets in the bitter cold, protesting Trump’s refusal to reveal his taxes. For the next four years, I rallied, wrote, created memes, and called my GOP congressman (who got reelected anyway). During that time, my writing took a back seat to activism.
This time around, protesting Trump’s reluctance to reveal his taxes feels like being outraged about an unpaid parking ticket as John Dillinger goes on a bank robbing rampage.
But looking back at his first term, all my time and energy did little to change Trump or his followers. After two impeachments, which I vigorously supported, it was the ballot box that forced Trump out. Now, he’s back - on the power of the vote.
There was a time when life returned to normal after an election. Regardless of the outcome, we could take pride in our peaceful transition of power. A lot of us are trying to do that right now. But this president is determined to make normal life impossible. Trump thrives on chaos. He demands constant attention from his followers – and those who oppose him.
I’m not getting on that outrage merry-go-round again. I will not let Trump rob me of my time – or my joy.
Many writers and pundits are finding new careers chronicling Trump's heinous deeds right now. More power to them. I'll gladly cede that task.
From this point forward, this blog will be about my journey as a writer. I hope as a reader or fellow author, you find these experiences worthwhile. Below are some topics for upcoming posts. I invite you to join me in a break from the madness. I look forward to your comments as well.
